Which Grain Size Option is Closest to Traditional Table Salt?Traditional table salt is very similar in grain size to our "Fine" grain option. Think of it as Fine being the size of the tip of a very sharp pencil and Coarse being the size of the stub after breaking a pencil's tip. And Baker's is an extremely fine, almost flour-like powder. Extra Coarse is just a little bit larger than Coarse.

Salt Was Once Used As A Currency?!This is an interesting one, it was really a perfect storm of 7 major factors that led to salt being prized as a currency all the way up until modern banks were created and cash became the dominant currency! Salt has been used as a form of currency in various cultures throughout history due to its essential role in preserving food, its scarcity in certain regions, and its crucial importance in daily life. Here are the 7 major factors that led to salt being used as a currency: Preservation of Food: Salt was a necessity for preserving perishable foods like meat and fish, especially before refrigeration. This made it a very valuable commodity for ensuring a stable food supply. Scarcity: Many areas lacked natural sources of salt, making it naturally scarce. this scarcity led to its high value as people required it for daily sustenance. Health Importance: Salt is essential for human survival as it's required for various bodily functions. Access to salt was crucial for wellbeing, contributing to its significance. Symbolism & Cultural Significance: Salt carried symbolic value in many cultures, often associated with purity, loyalty, and hospitality. These cultural beliefs added to its value as a trade item & currency. Labor-Intensive Production: Traditional methods of developing sea salt, such as evaporating sea water or physically mining salt deposits, were labor intensive processes. This further boosted the value of salt. Monopolies & Taxes: Some ruling authorities recognized the economic potential of salt and established monopolies or imposed taxes on its production & trade. Historic Recurrence: Various Civilizations, including the Romans, China, Africa, used salt as currency, just because that's what's been done in the past. The use of salt as a trading resource and currency has a long history, and you might have been unaware how recently we moved on from that to paper money. Salt was still being used as currency in the 19th Century in parts of Asia & Africa!

How Is Salt Even Made? There are a few modern methods of "brute forcing" your way to making salt, but here at Worldwide Salt we prefer to stick to solar evaporation, the traditional method, with roots going back over 8000 years! Our Natural Sea Salt is harvested from salt water directly from the sea! It is then heated by sunlight to allow the water to evaporate, leaving the delicious crystals we call salt. On the bottom layer traditional sea salt forms, but the top is a magnificent Pyramid of Giza shaped salt flake! This is called Fleur de Sel, translating to "Flower of Salt", it only forms when the temperature and wind patterns are perfect, only around 3 months every year!

What Is Fleur de Sel & Why Is It So Special?Fleur de sel is a premium sea salt known for its delicate flavor and unique texture. It's hand-harvested from the surface of seawater, forming small, irregular crystals with a slightly moist and sticky quality. This salt is prized for its versatility in cooking, its rarity, and its ability to enhance the taste of dishes when used as a finishing touch. It's often associated with French cuisine but can be found in various coastal regions around the world.
